Oil är ett kraftfullt episkt drama som spänner över tiden 1889 till 2050. Från fotogenlampans introduktion till de sinade oljekällorna. Den är civilisationskritisk, feministisk och oavbrutet fascinerande.
I de bärande rollerna ser vi May, som i den första delen är gravid i den iskalla stugan 1889, och hennes dotter Amy som dyker upp i del två som utspelar sig i Iran. Tillsammans genomlever de Västvärldens uppgång och fall. Vid sidan av engelskan talas både farsi och mandarin och när det i pjäsen gått drygt 150 år har May gått från ung till åldrad och Amy från ofödd till medelålders.
